Even if Microsoft 'falls' it will never be quick. For one thing, the vast majority of the world is run by Microsoft software. And because of the low-level changes they make with each new operating system and Office upgrade, even IF there was a competitor out there that is fully backwards compatible (which there absolutely IS NOT), then you still need massive amounts of time to convert everyone. And lets not forget about all the .Net development frameworks and the stuff that Microsoft does that is totally awesome.

Microsoft Haters are so boring anymore. Google fires Veteran computer Icons right before they become vested in the company stock, for the lamest reasons, and Apple destroys iPhones if people mod them to run FireFox on it. Get over yourself, ok? All of these companies are out to get you. Not one is your true friend.

Microsoft may do some shitty things with DRM, but they are your best bet right now. Unless you are the poor sap who is trying to Reverse Engineer a Microsoft Office Document with poor specifications available, you need to shut yer yapper.
